Take kids to the garden center, and have them pick a low-maintenance vegetable they can plant and grow in the ground or a container.
Low maintenance vegetables include:
- beans
- cherry tomatoes
- garlic
- leafy greens
- hot peppers
- herbs
Once they can harvest their veggies from their garden, look up some fun recipes that feature what they grew as the main ingredient. Plan a meal or a big salad that your kids can help prepare.
Children who garden learn responsibility, patience, perseverance, and how to deal with disappointment if the garden doesn't grow the way they expected.
Fun tip, my son's birthday is in May, one year we threw a farm themed birthday party which included planting flowers and pumpkins that they could then harvest and carve for Halloween!
